Symbiosis

‘A mutually beneficial relationship between different people, groups or organisms’.

With all of the wildfires raging here in Northern California, the smoke in the air is overwhelming, so riding is not an option. Yet, I spend the same about of time with my Horses, grooming, walking them, and once a week I trailer the somewhere to eat grass, aka, I take them out to dinner.

This time spent together is mutually beneficial. The more time we spend together, the more interest they have in me, and the more I am reminded of their influence in my life. Because Enchantress is very interactive (demanding) and she is the one I ride, she tends to take a lot of my attention, but during this time of not riding, I am spending more alone time with Mystic.

Mystic reminds me of simple things. Of the ‘quiet language’ within our relationship. She reminds me to listen for whispers in the world around me so that I can repair and embolden my wild nature. She speaks to me about my tendency to dismiss all that I know and my  inclination to submit to popular theories loudly proclaimed around me and reminds me to stay true to my own philosophy. Because of this intimate time together, I re-member parts of myself that get fragmented from constantly managing the responsibility of life.

Chant is a people Horse; she will leave the herd to come and interact with Humans. Mystic is ‘a Horses Horse’, she relates far more to the herd than she does to Humans. But when we have these consistent quiet times together, she sets aside her herd identity and bonds to me, and in these holy conversations she invites me to enter the private temple of her heart. And I sit here silently, mesmerized and complete as I listen to the ancient wisdom pulsing within her… sending me primordial visions, warm, alive, bold, tender, forgiving, seductive, brave and brilliant.

It takes conscious effort to lay aside my busy mind and turn off the agenda of the day so that I can be in harmonious communion with her. But the rewards are beyond price. In these symbiotic moments I see her in truth, Soul to Soul, she knows she has been acknowledged and honored. And I am reminded to return to my original nature as a part of the Wild Divine.

The Invitation

Take a break from your day, from your agenda and preconceived ideas of all that you are and all that you believe your Horse to be about, leave them where you can consider them later. For now, spend a few holy moments with your Horse. Without expectation. With innocence. Look for the symbiosis within your relationship. In what ways to you benefit each other? Food and shelter do not count, these things are synonymous with the commitment to have an animal, the effects of symbiosis is defined by the benefits. What benefits do you give and receive from each other? Are these innate with in the relationship or are they consciously applied? Do they need more attention or do they just need to be honored?
