While doing Soul Purpose Readings with Horses this phrase comes up a lot. They will mention using a tress of their hair as a Point of Contact for connection while the two of you are apart. Depending on the purpose of this Point of Contact, other items relating to the Horse may be used, such as a shoe or photo. I find it easy to carry a small lock of their hair with me, or I weave it in wraps in my hair, and at home I usually have some of their hair in frames or bound with beads lying around. I’m sure that some ‘non-horse’ people find this a bit disturbing or odd, even unsanitary, but to me, it brings a symbolic piece of my Horses into my indoor life.
As Human we use Points of Contact all the time. Photos, gravestones, a lock of hair or a piece of jewelry, to name a few. These items serve to remind us of relationships, promises, memories, encouragement, or commitments. Its no wonder the Horse suggests that we integrate a tangible representation of themselves in our Soul work or Soul relationships with them, because we understand the comfort or significance from them in our daily lives.
One Horse suggested that its Human braid some of her own hair into her mane, I found this both interesting and endearing. Because sometimes Horses are not that outwardly affectionate or visibly connected with us as Human, its easy to underestimate the value we have in their lives. I am amazed at the number of people that say their Horse only likes them because they feed them or give treats. Even Horse people say this, the Horse likes whoever takes care of them.
Clearly, we have caused the Horse to be dependent on us and it is our honor and responsibility to care for them, but, if we experience our Horses as more than something we ride or have, then we have so much influence in their lives, and they in ours. Influence on how they perceive or interpret Humans, influence on whether we will bring out the best in them or bring out the worst and they in us. Sadly, many Humans never consider the Soul of their Horse and they both lose opportunity for great love and transformation.
When we engage with something as a Point of Contact, we are instantly taken to a place of connection. A lock of a child’s hair from its first haircut will trigger the smell of that child, visiting a grave marker brings back memories of the Being that has crossed, and rings carry a plethora of meanings. So, for the Horse to suggest using a tress of their hair as a Point of Contact is proof of their desire to engage with us, even when we are apart.
The Invitation
Consider incorporating this idea into your relationship with your Horse. A bit of their mane or tail woven into some beads, hair jewelry or a key chain is easy to carry with you, have at your desk or in your car. Using a Point of Contact while not riding or working with your Horse will create space for energetic communication and connection. We participate in Point of Contacts in our everyday life, why not include one with your Horse?

Lovely idea! I do often have locks of my dog’s hair with me…sometimes unintentionally!
