More Animal than Human

I often trailer my Horses out for dinner, a walk or a picnic. My dog comes along for the ride. These sacred times are the glue that holds me together, in their presence I can lay aside my Human struggles and responsibility and give myself to the calm of Horses grazing. To the delight of dinner out. Of walking in silence while an inaudible language speaks to who we are as a ménage.

I have never been close to my family; I have always been the one that was ‘different’ and much of my adult life we have had times of estrangement. I always feel on guard when I am around them for fear of being attacked if I reveal my true self, especially my beliefs on animals. When I do voice my perspectives, they are met with challenge, condemnation, or silence. It’s as though I am a different species speaking a language they don’t know.

This causes me to wonder; is this how animals feel in the company of Humans? Not just wild animals, but often domestic animals as well.

I sometimes wonder if this scenario is experienced in reverse with animals. How many times has a Horse attempted to make connection with a Human only to find that the Human fears the energy projected in the invitation? Sometimes Humans are so threatened by something unknown that they react by retreating or challenging what it is that they don’t know. Perhaps they dismiss what they feel coming from the Horse because they do not know how to trust their intuition concerning this interspecies communication.

Even those of us (myself included) that have always needed the company of animals to help us find stability and direction have procrastinated the truth that we are spiritually related more to animals than Human. Sometimes it takes years or life changing experiences to show us the necessity of embracing this relationship and the power it holds. Indeed, it is essential for us to do this because spiritually we are blood relatives.

Acknowledging that we are spiritually related does not give us a guarantee of perfection, sometimes our natural instincts disagree, but it for me, discord never lasts long, and I never feel like the relationship itself is threatened. I am never afraid of losing what we experience together. A spiritual blood relationship has connections that a physical one does not. This relationship is truly unconditional.

With my animals it’s just understood that we’re together. We need no explanation, no justification. We’re all different, but we’re together because we know at our core we are of the same heart and spiritual blood and we are all content with this knowing.

The Invitation

Ask yourself if you believe in the idea of spiritual blood connections. If so, notice the difference between these and physical blood connections. Give consideration to the ways that they both influence your life; this will show you where your true relations support your life. Human or Animal, spiritual blood relations are the ones that bring out the best in us.
