Moonlight

Some of us do not relate to the limelight, to the spotlight and being visible while we process life, the challenges of life or the mysteries of life. I believe that many Horses are like this as well.

I have always been a Moon Child; I am instinctively and sometimes helplessly drawn to the Moon. Its seductive luminosity draws me into its spell, and I detach from all that is practical. In the Moonlight I am bewitched into believing that magick is possible and Moon shadows are a source of enchanted memories that rekindle innocence and dreams.

Moonlight rides are a favorite of mine, Horses and the Moon…. a perfect combination.

Though he has passed through the veil, we still connect and I recently had a conversation with Eli (akaTrue North) and he spoke about Moonlight and its benefits. ‘Moonlight is different than Sunlight, the Moonlight relies on the darkness to create its own mysterious version of light. Moonlight allows change without overwhelming brightness, it reveals its magick and beauty to those that look for ways more seductive and mystical. Moonlight is for those who feel the earth in a different way, for those that need protection from bright light. Moonlight is a source of illumination that allows seeing, but without the scrutiny of high visibility. Moonlight allows change but without full display; working with Moonlight is a special healing of its own. You feel safer here because the light is diffused, this light is compelling and seductive, unlike the Sunlight that reveals everything and cast darker shadows. Moonlight is private illumination; it is intimate and far more revealing than Sunlight. In the Sunlight you look for truth with your eyes, in Moonlight you engage your senses and you gather information that your eyes alone will miss,’

This conversation opened a space of common ground for me and my Horses. Sometimes Horses speak loud and clear like Sunlight, other times their conversation is subtle and intangible like Moonlight. Daily I access my Horses with high visibility, here I observe their health, their attitude, and their reactions with the intensity of Sunlight, but our real connection is far more symbolic of Moonlight.

By using the analogy of Moonlight, I understand more about how I relate to my Horses. Our connection is seductive yet profound, it is complex yet pure, solid yet magickal. Like the Moonlight we see how we are together, through a veil that buffers the sharp edges of personalities and differences leaving us to see clearly the things that matter. Moonlight is muted light, but with our senses we can honestly see what is within each of us and what unites us.

There is something mystical in the Moonlight, something that calls to our wild nature, something that invites us to experience things that are not visible in Sunlight. This journey with Horses is the same, it compels us to remember our wild, and it requires that we see with our senses and speak with our Soul if we are to find our way to true connection and unity with them. If we are to find enlightenment within our co-existence.

If we apply Eli’s perspective of Moonlight, we will engage all of our senses in knowing our Horses deeply instead of relying on what appears obvious at first sight. There is tremendous advantage to experiencing this Horse Human relationship with all of our senses. This again gives us common ground with the Horse, because they ‘read’ us with all their senses, this gives us insight into how they interpret us. Moonlight does not hold the brilliance of the Sun, but it is still perfect illumination.

The Invitation

If you have opportunity to spend time with your Horse in the Moonlight, do it. Notice the differences in how you both move and how you communicate with this shadowy light. Are you louder, or quieter? Is your Horse more reactive or less? Do you find it more inviting to connect in this environment? As you notice these differences, compare them to how you both are in the Sunlight, then decide on the advantages or disadvantages, or the signals that ask for a deeper look.
