The more I explore Empathic readings with Horses the more I see why so many of us are drawn to them, and why we have begun to expand our study, our interaction and our work with Horses.
During a recent dialogue with a Horse, she spoke of her internal angst about dealing with an ongoing injury. She also knew that her Human was considering re-homing her. What surprised and pained me was that she didn’t seem to ‘blame’ the Human for thinking this. Instead, because she was not as sound as she used to be, she felt like she had nothing to offer. She was completely identified in how she had preformed all her life, and now in this compromised state, she was not sure why her person would keep her. She did carry some confusion over the overarching energy of possibly being rehomed, but other than her performance, she saw no value in herself.
This was very upsetting for me to hear. But further thought made me realize that she was in a crisis, an identity crisis and a bit of a crisis of faith. She did not know who she was without her full capacity to perform, and, she was also confronted by the possibility of re-homing.
Humans often encounter these types of crisis. If we are dumped from a longstanding relationship, if our job has been outsourced and we are made redundant, or if our age has limited our options, we may suffer an identity crisis. If something we placed our hopes and dreams on turns to ashes after we have done our due diligence and kept the faith that it will come to pass, we suffer a crisis of faith.
I was taken aback by the thought that Horses too would experience life crisis. I don’t know why because Horses have less control over their life than Humans do, it makes sense that some of these situations would challenge them deeply.
I do believe that many Horses are malleable and adapt easily to situations they face, a common one being re-homing or being sold, but others are not so adaptable. One Horse might suffer a career injury and happily retire to be the babysitter, another one may have no other interest than what it has trained for and now finds itself in a life without purpose. A Horse and Human with a deep love may find themselves separated by circumstances beyond their control, leaving both with the crisis of a broken heart and broken dreams.
It makes sense that any Being with a highly developed sense of emotions would be at risk for a crisis. As Horse people it is our responsibility, and our privilege to make note of these situations and make wise decisions that support a Horse that has been faced with a change. As Human, sometimes we may need to go through the emotions as we make our way through a crisis of any kind, and the Horse may need to internally sort things out as well, but as Human we also know that it is best to not go through it alone.

The Invitation
If your Horse has experienced a sudden change or trauma of any kind, take note to their behavior. Some Horses act out their upset loudly making it obvious that they are unsettled, but what about the Horse that internalizes it? How is this Horse coping with this change? Approaching this with kind and open hearted observations will help to decipher how the Horse is dealing with the situation, if your Horse needs time to adjust, make sure to support their needs during this time.
