Accountability Partner

Most often we use the term Accountability Partner in the sense of sticking to something, a diet, a budget, exercise, substance abuse or boundaries. This can be extremely beneficial of course, but perhaps more attention to accountability should be given to our gifts. Our brilliance. Our talent.

As an eQUESTrian our Horse is our Accountability Partner. If we let them be. Our Horse will ask us to bring forth our abilities, our greatness, our truth, our discernment. In this relationship, our Accountability Partner will not only benefit us, it benefits the Horse as well. As with any relationship, living our potential benefits those around us.

Our abilities are sometimes hidden beneath low self-confidence, the Horse does not judge us by our abilities, they only ask if we will use them as best and as fair as we know. That we acknowledge what we know and what we don’t. Our greatness, they ask that we acknowledge what we can become. This may be innate, or it may require external education, either way, they hold us responsible for maximizing our potential. Our truth, Horses ask that we stay connected to what we intuit to be true within the relationship and our integrity towards the Horse. Betrayal of our truth in favor of outside influences damages the relationship and dishonors the narrative of how we view the Horse. Our discernment is essential to intimacy with our Horse. Discerning where we are within our own desires and intentions in our relationship is private to our Horse and ourselves, only we know when it is time to make changes, to stay still, to side step or to move forward.

Accountability is not only for responsible behavior and choices, it is also for mastering the gifts we hold within ourselves, for the genius within our Horse. Keep in mind that this genius, this gift, may not be so obvious to the world around us, but this is between our Horse and our self.  If the brilliance within either of us leads us to greater benefit, joy, and satisfaction, then we have accomplished great things between us. And that’s all that matters. This was never between you and the masses.

The Invitation

Take some time to look at what you would like to bring out in your Horse and yourself. Make some notes about it, if you don’t already have a Journal that you use for you and your Horse, this could be a good time to start one. Make sure that you look for the gifts and potential in both of you, and set intentions and heart energy towards grooming these things.
